Afton Trail Run Ultra Marathon

General Positions

Course Marking and Sweeping (Thursday Day and Friday Day)
We mark 15 miles of trail then when the last runner comes through, we follow behind, pickup the flags and any trash that may have been acidentally dropped.  This is a good way to get some miles on your feet and experience the Afton Trail Run in a unique way.  Marking takes place on the Thursday before the race and sweeping starts at 10:30 AM on Saturday at the Start/Finish/25K mark.

Pre-Race Setup (Friday)
If your available on Friday, please join us.  We get started around 12:00, getting things setup for Saturdays race.  We are usually done around 5:00 PM

Packet Pickup – Race Day
Help runners get their race bags, numbers, shirts etc., answer questions and help solve any problems that may arise.  Packet pickup starts at 5:00 AM on race morning, so volunteers must rise early and plan on being at the Afton State Park Visitors Center by 4:30 AM.  Packet pickup closes around 7:00 AM and there is still plenty to do after if you are up for it.

Aid Stations – Race Day
Spend a day  in the woods with a bunch of friends and throw a party! Probably one of the most enjoyable and most rewarding volunteer positions.  This is the position that is in high demand, some of our aid stations have been manned by the same groups for over a decade!  Be in the thick of the race, helping runners, filling water bottles, making sure tables are stocked with food to keep the runners going, cheering and offering encouragement!  Expect a full day of work starting as early as 6:15 and ending as late as 3:30.

Finish Line – Race Day
Help with timing and recording runners, pulling chips, awards, putting on the post-race picnic, clean-up etc.

Photography / Video – Race Day
Handy with a camera, let us know, we’ll put you to work!

Clean-Up and Out – Race Day
Once the race is done, the work is not done! We need lots of help on Saturday afternoon and evenging, cleaning up and packing up.
